New School Administration Gears up for 2014 School Year

BusWhen the 2013-2014 school years begins, students and parents will be greeted by several new administrators.

Lauren Dubeau is the new principal at Center School.

Lauren Dubeau holds a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education from the Worcester State College, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Westfield State College.  She comes to Hopkinton from the Simonian Center for Early Learning in the Sutton Public School district where she served as principal.  She previously served in Sutton as the Acting Principal for the Early Learning Center, and as both a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher.  She began her career in education as a Special Education Preschool Teacher in the Sutton Public Schools.

Anne Carver has begun her role as full-time assistant principal at Elmwood.  Tim Kearnan is now the full-time assistant principal at Hopkins.

Mrs. Carver holds a Master’s of Education in Elementary Leadership & Administration from Worcester State University and a Master of Education in Integrated Studies from Cambridge College.  Her undergraduate work was in Early Childhood Education, completed at Wheelock College. She comes to us from the Norrback Avenue School in Worcester, where she was a first grade teacher, and Site Administrator.  She has also taught Kindergarten, first and second grades at the New Ludlow Elementary School and the St. Nicholas Avenue School, both in Worcester, and began her career as a third grade Teacher at Midland Elementary School, also in Worcester.

Ann Benenek joins Ms Grady this year as one of two full-time assistant principals at the Middle School.

Mrs. Benenek holds a Master’s of Education from Cambridge College.  Her undergraduate work was in English, completed at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  She began her career as an English Teacher at West Boylston Middle/High School.  She comes to us from the Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School in Westborough, where she has served as a Team Leader, a Supervising Practitioner and an English Teacher.  This past year, she also completed her Administrative Internship at Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School.

Michael Cournoyer is the new principal at the high school.

Mr. Cournoyer holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Worcester State College, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Lowell.  He is currently the Principal for Holliston High School. He previously served as Assistant Principal of Hopkinton High School, and began his career in education as a high school health teacher at Southbridge High School.

Joshua Hanna has been hired as an assistant principal at the High School.  The former assistant principal, Ashoke Ghosh, will be assuming the Director of Technology role for Hopkinton Public Schools.

Mr. Hanna holds Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Simmons College, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in U.S. History / Secondary Education from Framingham State College. He comes to Hopkinton from the Natick Public Schools, where he taught for 13 years, most recently serving as the Social Studies Department Chair at Natick High School.  Mr. Hanna was also the head coach of the Natick High School Redhawks baseball team.

Tonight at 7:00pm Meet HS Principal Candidate Michael Cournoyer

IMG_0878The search process for the next Principal of Hopkinton High School is nearing completion. Although two finalists were originally selected, one of the finalists, Mr. John Smith has withdrawn from consideration and been hired as headmaster of the Dover-Sherborn Regional High School. Read more in the Dover-Sherborn Press. There will be an opportunity tonight at 7:00pm in the Hopkinton High School Auditorium for interested faculty, staff, parents, and community members to meet the remaining candidate, Mr. Michael Cournoyer, and provide feedback to the Superintendent. Those attending will have opportunity to hear the candidate speak about his experience and training, ask the candidate questions, and complete a feedback sheet that Dr. Hiersche will consider when making his selection. Brief biographical information is included below. Meet the Center School Principal Finalists Monday at 6:30pm

Center SchoolHopkinton Interim Superintendent, Dr. Steven Hiersche, is pleased to announce that the Center School Principal Screening Committee has identified three outstanding candidates for further consideration for the position of Center School Principal: Ms. Abigail Dressler, Ms. Lauren Dubeau, and Mr. Tim Kearnan. The Screening Committee included representation from building level and central office administration, professional teaching staff, as well as a parent representative. Principal Searches – Center School and High School

IMG_0878Progress is being made in the search for new Principals for Center School and Hopkinton High School. Finalists have been announced for the High School Principal position: Mr. Michael Cournoyer (Principal, Holliston High School) and Mr. John Smith (Principal, Westborough High School). See press release below for more info. Interviews were expected to be completed this week for the Center School Principal position. Public forums, tentatively set for April 1 and April 8, will be held for the finalists for both principal positions. Forum details will be announced shortly. Laptops, Building Committee, Center Principal and Elmwood Roof

1-to-1 Laptop Program Update
At the December 20 School Committee meeting, Kathy Dooley and Ashoke Ghosh presented an update on the 9th Grade 1-to-1 Laptop program, including results of a recent survey of teachers, students and parents. Elementary School Building Committee Update
The Board of Selectmen voted to appoint John Mosher as their representative on the next School Building Committee. The School Committee voted to appoint Jon Graziano (voting member) and Scott Aghababian (non-voting member) as its two representatives on the committee. In addition, at the December 20 School Committee meeting, Dr Hiersche reported that 11 members of the public applied for the four At-Large positions on the committee. Center School Interim Principal Update
At the December 20 School Committee meeting, Dr Hiersche reported that he was currently interviewing candidates for the Center School Interim Principal position. Click to read the job description. He hoped to appoint an Interim Principal within a week or two, so that there would be some overlap before Dr Kennedy leaves, sometime during the week of January 14. Elmwood Roof Update
According to the Hopkinton Crier, the committee overseeing the Elmwood School roof project was scheduled to meet Wednesday afternoon to interview four architect firms bidding on the project. Center School Principal Dr Kennedy Resigns

In an email to parents on November 26, Center School Principal Dr Chris Kennedy announced his resignation effective January 2013. Stay tuned for plans for the search for a new principal after the next School Committee meeting on December 6.
