School Committee to Enter Contract Negotiations With Dr. Steven Hiersche (from Framingham Schools) as Interim Superintendent

To recap the process to date, Assistant Superintendent, Dr Mary Ann DeMello, is now the Acting Superintendent through July 31, 2012. New Childcare Transportation Waiver for 2012-13 School Year

New for the 2012-13 School Year, in order for parents to have their children bussed to an alternate bus stop (not their home residence) such as a daycare, the daycare provider must contract with the school and pay a $100 fee per child. (The fee may be passed down to the parents from the daycare.) Parents must also sign a waiver form from the Hopkinton Public Schools releasing them from liability. Downtown Initiative Steering Committee (DISC) Update

After failed town meeting votes on the expansion of the Bill’s Pizza parking lot behind town hall and on the undergrounding of utilities on Main Street downtown, the Downtown Initiative Steering Committee (DISC) has regrouped to come up with a modified plan that will have more support from business owners and residents. Board of Selectmen, Town Committee Openings and Road Closure Updates

After the May Town Election, the Board of Selectmen reorganized as they do every year. Ben Palleiko was elected Chair and John Mosher was elected Vice-Chair. School Committee Update and School Council Openings

After the May Town Election, the School Committee reorganized as they do every year. Nancy Burdick was elected Chair and Scott Aghababian was elected Vice Chair. Elmwood School has a new principal this year, David Ljungberg, who was the formerly the Assistant Principal for both Elmwood and Hopkins Schools. Interim Superintendent Interviews Tonight and Wednesday

At their June 7 meeting, the School Committee voted to appoint Dr Mary Ann DeMello the Acting Superintendent for July 1 to July 31, 2012. They also voted at that time to move forward with a search for an Interim Superintendent for the 2012-13 School Year. The Interim Superintendent Search Screening Committee has identified three candidates for further consideration by the School Committee. Dr Landman’s Original Contract – April 28, 2011
Approved by the School Committee in a 3 to 2 vote. Members Jean Bertschmann, Rebecca Robak and Troy Mick were in favor. Members Nancy Burdick and Richard de Mont were opposed. Both Burdick and de Mont expressed support for Dr Landman the person, but not for the terms of the contract. Landman’s contract was for three years at a salary of $180,000 a year.
